Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is Peak Arcade Design | Why It Endures
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is Peak Arcade Design | Why It Endures. We will never see another fighting game like 3rd Strike. I love the Street Fighter series, but as time has gone on I've come to realize that I am especially fond of the Arcade Era games Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha (Zero), and Street Fighter 3. In this video I explore what sets the arcade era of Street Fighter apart from its modern iteration of Street Fighter 4, 5, and now 6, and how the switch to the modern live service model of fighting game design is a much more radical shift than I think the FGC seems to realize. Capcom could not make a game like 3rd Strike today under the live service model, even if the...

Devil May Cry is MORE Than Buzz Marketing (Phantom Blade Zero). I am sensing a new emerging trend in soulslike (Dark Souls Clones) marketing which is to base the entire fundamental design of the new action game on the Dark Souls formula (which is completely fine), and then sprinkle in a few surface level mechanics from character action games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden and then claim th...

10 Modern Game Design Trends That Hurt Longevity. Right now there is a very strong emphasis in Modern Gaming on the ideas of Ease of Access, Familiarity, and Progression. On top of that, because of the massive influx of new games constantly being released, modern ...

We need to kill this idea of one touch death combos or combos that a mini cutscene that you cant do anything while 70% of your hp is going down, is what makes a fighting game "deep" and "require skill" too.

The reason higher level players, seemingly go to training mode, learn a few combos and have success is because they already have the fundamentals down. Fighting games can be very different, but they do have a lot of similarities, and once you have the fundamentals down, to the level, they do, it makes it much easier.

I hope Live-service games will go away. The suits who run those big video game companies should realize that time is far more finite than money somebody can spend monthly on video games. You can buy new 5 games a month if you have a great job but you can't keep up with all the live-service games that are currently on the market

I have to disagree on Tekken. It is my favorite fighting game franchise. For me the next Tekken isn't always the best Tekken. My favorite is still Tekken Tag Tournament 1. Then Tekken 3. Tekken 4, Tekken 7, Tekken 5, Tekken 2, Tekken 1, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Tekken 6. And in that order.

The best overview of 3rd strike I think I'v ever seen. I especially like the commentary on balance, something I'v thought for awhile is that the main way modern games balance large rosters is simply by making the characters more similar, they tend to do pretty much the same thing just slightly better or worse in some areas. In 3rd Strike by comparison you have some vastly different characters which exist together in the same game, such different characters with different win conditions playing against each other is a lot what makes the game so fun and diverse.

So what you saying is when tying dead fighting games that nobody plays and you have zero friends to play with. The thing to do will be training mode > story/arcade >Time Attack and just to grind to beat your own score in every difficulty and character?.... Sounds better that getting bodied at the rank by some randoms Edit: Also DOA: Dimensions on the 3DS played good and had lots of content. Try if ever get the chance

Here's some information: ROM discs, also known as replicated discs, pressed discs, stamped discs, comercial discs, with music, movies or video games, have a life expectancy of 1000 years. Why 1000 years you might ask? The polycarbonate layer of the disc is data layer, the pits and the lands, the binary code, where the music, movie or game is stored. Polycarbonate has a life expectancy of 1000 years. The problem is disc rot. And disc rot happens when the disc is exposed to high levels of humidity. It is not self-destruction! As long as you store the disc properly, it will last 1000 years. It's like books. They will last hundreds of years as long as you stored them properly, away from water and fire. If you think this is wrong, then go check what the inventors of the recordable M-DISC have to say about ROM-discs. HDDs and SSDs are not superior. These devices have a life expectancy of 5 years on average. The same for SD cards. These devices are not for storage nor archive. They are for work, constant and imediate access. And also for short term backups. Not storage nor archive. ROM-DISCs and Recordable M-DISCs are the best to store and archive digital media.

You got all the charactets at launch of the arcade, but you didn't get the opportunity to buy more characters of you want them. Plus no balancing with nerfs or buffs. My only issue with 3 is the playable characters, wish they had all the characters from alpha 3, then it would be a perfect game for the most part. For me 4 was the best then 3 then ST.

3s has so much depth and complexity. That's what makes it really fun. In general any character can be good as long as you know your character and the matchup. Being able to read your opponent helps too haha... I really got into SF4 but I lost interest when ultra came out. I played SF5 in the beginning but I was really annoyed with the mechanics. I lost interest even though revisions improved things.

Some of us don't need scoring systems or evaluation to bring out the best in a game, but that's not very many of us. If I can do things that other people can't, I'm better at the game than them and the game doesn't need to tell me that. I noticed that with less hud elements screaming digits and data at me, the closer my sword is to the throats being cut.

I enjoyed the idea of the summons. The purpose wasnt to trigger it and play stationary it seems, the dev team wanted players to summon, use one move and combo into it seamlessly. When it works, it's beautiful, cause it feels like you can fight at all ranges, and always engaging (there are combinations for the summons too which is super cool) but I wanted a better enemy design to flesh this out of the player. When you can summon Madama Butterfly and mash your way through the tanks, why would you attempt the harder stuff? Devil May Cry 5 despite having a less mechanically fleshed out V, the game managed to find a good balance between you fighting from a far while still needing to expose yourself and get closer in order to get the kill or regenerate your pets. The main difference between V and Bayo is that V is meant to provide and occasional break from the core gameplay, giving you a more on your toes, meter management, dangerous experience which is contrasted by the intense and powerful char action of Dante and Nero. It even serves as a storytelling device interestingly enough. But the summons aren't a break from Bayo 3 gameplay, THEY ARE THE CORE OF IT lmao. My main complaint with Bayo 3 wasn't even the other stuff you get to do, cause I had fun with it sometimes. The rythmic opera level made me laugh, the shooter on rails section was cool and didn't overstayed it's welcome, my only issue were the (god-awful) godzilla sections. The main gripe I have is with it's presentation. Bayo 3 is ugly and not just in the graphical sense. The technological artstyle doesn't fit at all with this franchise. Much so that they needed to add this entire multiverse, globe-trottering stuff to iterate on this poor idea. Some levels visually kinda worked (China and Paris) others (Egypt, the Island) not so much. The enemy design is nothing inspired too. The angels were beautiful yet haunting the more you damaged them. The enemy behavior was also more refined. Damn, Bayo 2 looks like a next-gen game in comparison to 3 for just how prettier it looks. There's absolutely no color, and the whole purpose of Bayo 2 was to get rid of the filter that made Bayo 1 so brown. This angelic tone creates the feeling that your in a dance rather than a combat, which is the intended vision. With the robots, androids and techno aesthetic, this feeling is lost. You're not taunting and playing with God's beloved cherubim, you're just fighitng for your life against souless creatures. It's a step back in every way artistically imo which makes me wonder why the critics enjoyed it so much, cause they don't know shit about gameplay to sing the game's praises properly (even if it's just good attempts at experimenting with long range char action, which I commend them but don't justify a 10/10 imo).

sf3s is one of the best fighting games ever created, the problem is that its not a street fighter, capcom back then lost the opportunity to have a great new ip. They created a great game like 3s with great mechanics (parry) and choose to jeopardize all this for the single reason that they wanted a new sf.

Who TF hates on SF3? It literally forced players to be more "aggressive". Up unto SF3 most ppl would just lame ass play you: always throw a fireball, wait for you to jump and then catch you with a DP or something. SF3 with its parry move took away the "cheapness" of some players and forced them to evolve as players. Fireballs? Nah bro, those can be parried now with no damage. If anything SF3 made players "git gud" and anyone hating on the game is totally misunderstood.
